How To Make A Real Life Tile Table & Outdoor Table Top
1. Measure The Table and Cut The Sheets
So, the first step is to measure the total area of the table and cut the tile sheet based on the measurements. Since every person has got a different kind of tabletop and needs, cutting the tile sheets according to the surface area is needed. While many professionals don’t do it and apply the whole sheet to the table, you can’t make it yourself.
Measuring and keeping small pieces of tile sheets will help you in sticking them properly. To do this with precision, we will recommend you use a measuring tape and a marker to cut the tiles properly. If you do it without the measurements, then the tiles won’t align properly.
2. Apply The Tile Adhesive or Grout
Once you are ready with the tiles, start applying the tile’s adhesive on the tabletop. If you want, then you can also use a tile adhesive spreader that is available both online and offline to do this work. In this way, you will be able to apply the adhesive properly on every part of the table.
It is required to apply the adhesive everywhere on the table all at once so you can place the tiles altogether. Don’t forget to take the help of a damp sponge to remove the excess adhesive that got applied to the table. Also, don’t let the adhesive rest there for much longer, as it will not stick to the tiles.
3. Add The Tiles To The Table
Once you’ve added the adhesive to the table, start laying the tiles on top. You might have to press the tiles with your hands or some sort of grout sponge so they can stick to the adhesive properly. If you are working on a wooden table, then use a sponge or damp cloth to press the tiles else they might break.
Also, take care of the wood screws, as laying tiles on them will break them. We will recommend you use wood glue while working with such materials. Also, remove excess adhesive after laying the tiles and before applying the grout. This will help you in getting a good-looking table surface.
4. Add and Remove Excess Grout
You’ve layed the tiles on the table, and now it’s time to apply the grout into the gaps. Before doing this, make sure to apply tile adhesive and let it dry overnight with tiles on it. So you can fix any broken or loose tiles before applying the grout. You can buy a grout float to do this work, and now you can begin preparing a grout mixture for your tiles.
If you’ve got white tiles, then you will have to stick with regular grout; else, for cube tile tops, you can go with epoxy grouts. Don’t forget to read more about the grouts and which one is suitable for your table before buying anything. Also remove tile grout from the table tiles and side tables once you’re done.
5. Clean The Tile’s Surface
Remove excess grout from the edges and surface of your table and let the table dry for about 1-2 days. It depends on the thickness of the glue, grout, and the table’s title and how long it will take for them to harden. Once done, use any tile or table surface cleaner to clean the top. Congrats, you’ve created your own tiled tabletop without any assistance.
Now you can modify the materials and design to make other tabletops as well. The process remains the same; only the tile’s material, type of grout, and design might change. Go ahead and give this method a try and let us know about the outcome too.
